For the better

It's about to get real up in here.

I  am not in shape.  Well, that's really an understatement.  I am overweight is more like it.

For the longest time I've ignored that fact, especially because I'm with a man who loves me the way I am.

That's all well & good, except I'm totally not healthy & neither is he.

It's time to make a change.

The other thing you need to know is that I have little to no will power or ambition when it comes to exercising.

If it's too hot/too cold/Sunday through Saturday, I will not exercise outside.

In fact, the only way I will exercise is in front of the TV where I normally enjoy sitting & making my fat ass fatter.  How sad is that?  I'm sort of ashamed of myself...sort of.

And so, I bought myself a treadmill.  It's should be here sometime this week or early next week, & my journey to work out everyday will begin.

Honestly, I'm excited to get started!  This is going to sound so stupid given what I just told you about myself, but I've wanted to get into running for a long time.  I know a few people who run habitually, & in addition to being ass kickers, they always have more energy & feel so much better than I do.  I'm jealous.

It's going to be a long, slow process to start - just walking everyday in the beginning.  But I do plan to get there.

I'm telling you this because I need you to help hold me accountable.  Ask me if I've worked out.  If I say no, tell me to get my lazy ass off the internet & onto that treadmill I just paid good money for.

Trust me, you are not going to hurt my feelings.  I need this.  I know myself.

This is going to be a long, hard journey, but it's definitely one I'm ready to take.

  1. The Couth to 5K program is supposed to be really good for starting to run. It really does say "okay, run for 10 seconds, walk for 5 minutes" or soemthing like that that seems ridiculous - but I have a friend who's run marathons that says it's a very good program. I'd check that out!

    Gooooooooooooo Reneeeeee!

  4. You can do it! Start small and you'll build up to all that you want to do! I found it easier to excercise once I figured out how to do it in front of the TV - I used the treadmill 30 minutes a day/5 days a week. It works!

  5. Okay, there was this time in my life where I was super excited to get into running too and treadmills made me all gooey inside. (Of course, this was because I had just finished a 4 pound bag of Reese's miniatures immediately prior, but whatever).

RECOMMENDATION: Jumping right into running can be really hard and really discouraging. For me, my biggest problem was always breathing. I would be out of breath before my body got tired. So frustrating. Learning to regulate your breath is just way too much effort for a lazy person like myself. Someone I was in school with at the time referred me to this thing called the "Couch to 5k" running program. It's just a little online guide, an interval program that tells you how many minutes to run and walk to build up to running for 30 minutes straight. It's spread out over a number of weeks so going from running 1 minute one week to 2 minutes the next week doesn't make you want to DIE as intensely as you would doing it on your own. I thought it was great, I loved it and I would still be doing it had I not turned up with arthritis and had to give up running. (So pissed me off.)

Here's a link to the article. I SO recommend it. It made it so easy for me!

  6. WHUPS! Wrong link. :)

Here's the correct link to the right landing page with the program. Again, the whole goal is just to get you running for a solid block of time- which totally works! :)
