For the better

It's about to get real up in here.

I  am not in shape.  Well, that's really an understatement.  I am overweight is more like it.

For the longest time I've ignored that fact, especially because I'm with a man who loves me the way I am.

That's all well & good, except I'm totally not healthy & neither is he.

It's time to make a change.

The other thing you need to know is that I have little to no will power or ambition when it comes to exercising.

If it's too hot/too cold/Sunday through Saturday, I will not exercise outside.

In fact, the only way I will exercise is in front of the TV where I normally enjoy sitting & making my fat ass fatter.  How sad is that?  I'm sort of ashamed of myself...sort of.

And so, I bought myself a treadmill.  It's should be here sometime this week or early next week, & my journey to work out everyday will begin.

Honestly, I'm excited to get started!  This is going to sound so stupid given what I just told you about myself, but I've wanted to get into running for a long time.  I know a few people who run habitually, & in addition to being ass kickers, they always have more energy & feel so much better than I do.  I'm jealous.

It's going to be a long, slow process to start - just walking everyday in the beginning.  But I do plan to get there.

I'm telling you this because I need you to help hold me accountable.  Ask me if I've worked out.  If I say no, tell me to get my lazy ass off the internet & onto that treadmill I just paid good money for.

Trust me, you are not going to hurt my feelings.  I need this.  I know myself.

This is going to be a long, hard journey, but it's definitely one I'm ready to take.

Who's with me?

Seems to me, no one I know in my own life, so I've decided to throw it out there to Bloggyland.

Anyone else excited for the Royal Wedding tomorrow morning?

I'll be at work when the coverage starts, but I set the DVR - which is nice because I can fast forward through the annoying crap.

I know that this wedding has nothing to do with this country, or anything truly important for that matter...but I don't care.

I think it's fun to get all caught up in the "fairy tale," as it were.

We're going to see someone become a for real princess, complete with gaudy carriage & all!

Maybe I'm a dork, but I don't care.  I'm looking forward to it.

Who's with me?

Ain't that a pisser.

Although I can't be certain, I think my gentlemenly turkey from the other day met an untimely demise.

The people who own the turkey live near a cluster of other houses in an ugly turn on a windy country road.  Oh, & did I mention they also have a flock of ducks & chickens too?

It isn't the prime location for your wild fowl.

And, I noticed on my way home from work this morning, a turkey didn't quite make it across the road.

Although I can't confirm it's "my" turkey, I was still pretty devastated.

Moral of the story - don't let your free range animals graze in an area where people are speeding around treacherous curves in the road.

Other people, I mean.  I would never drive too fast on a windy road.

R.I.P. Turkey.

Sounds like a plan.

So, everyone knows how I hate "the math."  I think this is how I'll get through the next year & a half.

(Semi)Wordless Wednesday

This is my cousin, a PA State Chess Champion, & his big ass trophy!  He placed 1st in his division at the state tournament a few weeks ago.  I'm so proud!

Think spring!

The bitter cold weather is taking a break for the next few days, when the temperature here in Pennsylvania is supposed to be in the 60s!  It'll be back into the 40s on Saturday, but I plan to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

Flip-flops tomorrow.  Woot!

The temporary warmth has me dreaming of spring with it's blue skies, budding flowers & chirping birds.

Here's hoping winter moves on quickly!

It was my pleasure.

One of my residents passed away tonight.

When her family was leaving they thanked me & gave me hugs.

With tears in my eyes I told them I loved her too.

Her grandaughter said that was obvious.

Best compliment I've ever gotten at work.

Ok, I'm ready to play now.

I've had a Twitter account forever, but I've never used it on a consisten basis.

Until recently, that is...

( BTW, sentence fragment much?)

In any event, I'm on Twitter @ClosedSunday.

If I'm following your blog & you have a Twitter I could find, I'm now one of your Twerps too.  Is that the right word for Twitter Friend?  I really don't know.

So if you would please, follow me back & let's get to Tweetin'!

No turning back!

It's here!!

We went into the wee hours of the morning, but it's finally done - the tattoo, that is.

I love, love, LOVE it!

For those of you who may not have known, I wanted the tattoo as a memorial for my grandmother & aunt.  Both of them loved cats & Egyptian mythology.  The Egyptians worshiped cats.  Siamese cats in particular were thought to be protectors of the pharaohs.

And now I have a physical reminder of my protectors - who always have my back, even if I can't see them.

Because I have nothing else to write about.

Is Jimmy Fallon not the most adorable thing you've ever seen?  I think he might be.

Image from Google.

I think his late night show is so underrated.  If you haven't seen it, set your DVR - it's very funny stuff.

I've adored Jimmy since the SNL days, & I was always sad that he didn't become the next Adam Sandler after he left.  But now I'm glad he's found his niche.

And as his star rises I'll always remember the good old days when he sang parody jingles for troll dolls (Google it!  So funny...) & it only cost me $8 to see him at West Chester University.

I get an extra entry for this post, & for each one of you lovely ladies that leaves Little Miss a comment saying I referred you to the post.

So, if you have a spare moment, I'd appreciate it...& I know you'll love her blog too!

Christmas with the weatherman.

After my busy thrift store adventures yesterday I came home & had a sudden burst of energy around 7:30.

I went grocery shopping, cleaned my house & then...I broke out the Christmas decorations.

Of course, I've got a story about the decorations.  It all started with my mom, who just can't accept the truth about her beloved front porch Santa decoration.  See, my mom's Santa is special.  By day he's one thing, & by night he's something different.  Allow me to demonstrate.

Day

Night

Anyone else notice anything?

Look, I'm not saying it's wrong for her to display the Santa.  And I'm not saying it's Santa's fault.  It's probably just the crappy paint used to manufacture him.  But the fact remains - she's got an ethnic Santa.

To this day my mother vehemently denies that there is anything out of the ordinary with her Santa.  While I know my mother is not a racist, this is not some abstract comment on how "color blind" she is.  She simply chooses not to accept the truth.

And of course, I find this to be hilarious (As do my bi-racial friend of 15 years & my gay bestie.  Please don't send me any hate mail.  I'm not a biggot, I'm just easily amused).

Anyway, after many years of my relentless jokes at her Santa's expense, my mom made her comeback last Christmas.  On Christmas Day she, my sister & my stepdad came over to our house to open presents.  After everything was opened my mom gave me my "special" present.

And yes, he is displayed as part of my holiday decor this year.

Meet me on Monday

I haven't done this one for a while, but it's always fun!  Meet me on Monday is a blog hop hosted by Java at Never Growing Old.  Just answer this weeks questions & link up.  It's a great way to meet new bloggers.

Here are this week's questions:

1.  Do you eat Sushi?

I only started in the last year & a half.  DJ is a sushi lover, & he's slowly getting me to try some things.  I love rolls that have avacado & salmon in them.  My absolute favorite is a Philly roll though.  You can't go wrong with cream cheese.  Mmm...

2.  What kind of bath soap do you use?

I like Dove for sensitive skin.  My skin is troublesome at times. I use that to wash my make-up off because it doesn't dry my skin out.

3.  How often do you talk to your Mom?

I'd say 3-5 times a week, mostly via email when she's bored at work.  That's a lot more often then we used to talk when I lived at home.  Our relationship is rocky, & my mom has her own set of issues.  But it's getting better as I'm getting older.

4.  What TV shows do you watch on a regular basis?

This is a long list, but here goes:  True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Eastbound & Down, Paranormal State, Psychic Kids, House, Raising Hope, Modern Family, Cougar Town & The Big Bang Theory.  I'm addicted to all of them.  If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend checking them out!

5.  Did you start Christmas shopping yet?

Yes!  I officially started the shopping part this past Saturday.  Prior to that,  I only ordered a gift for my MIL...but I guess that still counts, right?

Kevin Smith, Grant from Ghost Hunters & some guy that looks like DJ's stepdad

So, like I mentioned yesterday, my favorite part of my weekend away was the "celebrity" stalking!  There were some look-alikes at the tournament, so I spent my weekend trying to take a good picture without being noticed.

Tell me what you think...

Kevin Smith?

Is there a ghost in the Grand Ballroom?

Then there was this random guy who looks like someone I know.

Happy Halloween!

And Happy Birthday to me!  I'm 26 today.

DJ made sure to yell "Happy Birthday" as soon as the clock struck midnight on Halloween.  We watched 28 Days Later, which he insisted is the greatest zombie movie ever - but my money is still on Shaun of the Dead.

Since I'm working this weekend today will just be a typical day.  I've got laundry to dry this morning.  I have to run to the grocery store to pick up taco dip supplies for my charge nurse's birthday party tomorrow.

I made Halloween cupcakes & took them to work for this weekend.  You know, like you did for your birthday when you were in kindergarten. Lol!  And I'm picking up hoagies from the pizza shop around the corner for dinner.  We're having a makeshift party with four people, but that's ok with me.  Some of the other people I work with wouldn't even do that, & if I have to work on my b-day, I'm happy to at least be with people I like.

Until then, it's whatever horror movie I can find on TV.

Have a great Halloween everyone!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

This is my favorite time of year.  I love fall; the leaves changing, the smells, the cool air.  And I especially love Halloween & everything about it!

In order to get time off for my weekend away with DJ, I had to agree to work this weekend. : (

Last night was trick-or-treat night in the MIL's neighborhood that I would have loved to go to.  There are scary movie marathons I'm going to miss this weekend.  And I won't be home on Sunday night to watch the Ghost Hunters live on the Sci-Fi network.

So please, get out & trick-or-treat with your little ones, hand out lots of candy, watch a monster movie, tell some ghost stories & soak in all the fun this weekend has to offer!

Happy Friday lovers!

Even though I have to work this weekend, I'm in an unusually good mood today!  Here are a few reasons why:

  • DJ & I are going on a weekend away at the beginning of November.  I know it's a long way off, but I'm still excited!  It'll be nice to get away, even just for a few days.
  • My cousin is going to do the 30 day blog Meme with me!  Yay!  We start Monday.
  • I'm actually going to have something to blog about.  I'm really excited to get back into the swing of things.
  • The calendar says it's Fall - even though it's close to 90 today - & I love Fall!!  It's the best season.
  • I'm taking the day off from cooking, so I'm going to the store in a few minutes to pick something up for dinner.
  • I found some great new blogs this week.  Thanks for the tip, Brittany!
Have a great weekend everyone!
